How To Light a Fire in the Sauna
Before you begin:
Firelighters, matches and logs are in your hut ready for you to use in the sauna.
Water for your bucket will also be outside.
Build the Fire:
Start by placing one or two firelighters at the centre of the stove.
Arrange your kindling (small sticks) in a teepee shape around the firelighter, leaving enough space for air to flow through.
Place a couple of smaller logs on top of the kindling in a similar teepee shape, crisscross pattern, or in front of and behind the kindling. Don’t add too many logs at this point.
Light the Fire:
Light the firelighter or the kindling at the bottom.
Once the kindling catches fire and starts burning well, let it burn for a few minutes to establish a strong base.
Maintain the Fire:
Gradually add larger logs as the fire builds ensuring they catch fire before adding more.
Once the fire reaches temperatures above 60 degrees Celsius, use the ladle to pour water on the hot stones as you desire.
Monitor and Replenish:
Check the fire and add more logs as necessary to maintain the desired temperature.
The sauna should be ready in about 30–45 minutes.
When You Are Finished:
Please make sure the stove door is closed before you leave the sauna.
Please keep the Sauna clean and tidy for the next guests.
