We’ve been here in the heart of Snowdonia since the 1830s when John Whitehead Greaves came to North Wales to make his fortune. We started out mining the very best slate in the world – which found its way from Germany to Argentina – creating an amazing man-made landscape which is now a World Heritage Site.

The best thing is that all this is amid some of Wales's most beautiful natural mountains and moorland. Still a family business, our 2000-acre site is now known for green energy, walks, downhill bike tracks, zip lines and, of course, the unique underground adventure playground situated in the mine we started all those years ago. We are all really proud of the transformation that has taken place in recent years and love meeting people who come here for the first time.
